Cross Country

It's Cross Country season, and Piwakawaka is training hard!

In Literacy, some people wrote about what the Cross Country feels like.

Watene:
Your aching feet stomping the ground as you try to keep running
and the wind carrying your hair you see everyone trying to keep
up with each other and you can hear heavy breathing moaning
complaining and sometimes conversations you feel tired puffed
out sore and you want to stop but it always pays off when you
get the feeling after crossing the finish like you have acheived
something and the great feeling when you dont have to run
anymore.

Emily:
This Term, Term Two we are practicing for Cross Country. Everyday for PE we do the short block run a few times, Kowhai block once which is a bit longer, or the bigger Cross Country run. The real Cross Country is in two weeks. Some of us jog most of the way and some of us run most of the way but we keep on training till we finish and get to the end. We keep on training and training till it comes the big day, the real Cross Country!

Megan:
At the starting line I want to get to the end before I get too cold.
123 Go I run my hardest as the cold air rushed through my hair as it feels like it's pushing me back to the back of the pack.
I want this horror to stop but I keep on going as I push myself up the hill looking at the ground and pointy elbows and high knees.
Going along the road under the motorway is level so I speed until there is a hill a I do a slow jog up the steep hill and by now my troat really hurts.
The wind is still pushing me back but I don't stop as i'm getting closer and closer to the finish line.
I see the sign that says "Tawa College Sports Fields" I am so close I can feel it.
I see the Teachers and I say "yes I did it " and go at get at lest one drop of water.
I am so glad I finished the Cross - Country

Giselle:
" Go" Mr Westphall yells, our team leader over our voices of excitement. As I start running I jog just to keep my pace, but I know I have to pickup the pace before I am left behind. One step at a time, my legs scream for me to stop but I keep going. Sweat running down my face, sound of peoples footsteps thudding on the ground thud thud thud. People stopping in the middle of my path, I run around them forcing myself to keep going. I'm aching all over and I am forced to stop, so I power walk and when I've caught my breath I jog slowly and I then pick up my pace. People behind me, making me run even faster at last I see the end and I'm growing happier by the minute. When I reach the end I slow down and start walking towards my friends who have passed before me. My body is about to collapse, I'm so exhausted I feel like a nap But I am glad I succeded and tried my hardest

Brydon:
The whistle blows hard and everyone is off and in the front was someone who was fast and I'm in the middle of the pack and we were trying to catch up to the girls which they had a whole minute ahead of us. I started off with Shiv and then Shiv left me and sprinted away to try and catch with the girls so I stayed with Denis and Ben. We ran half of the way jogged some of the way and walked some of the way. It took about 16 min.

Keenan:
The whistle blows and we are off running out throughthe gate and onto the footpath the sun is shining in my eyes i am running at a steady pace with my friends Malin and Pratik.Malin gives up but Pratik and I lifthim up encouraging him to run.We run for another five minutes and Pratik gives up and Malin and I lift him back up we were all sweating begging for water. We run for another 13 minutes but then i give up and start walking Malin and Pratik lif my head and I start running again. After about 6 minutes of running we all walk up a hill, we see birds flying around and chirping. We too lift our heads and see the finish line!We sprint to the finish and even though we didnt come in first place,we are glad of the effort we put in.

Hannah:
In Week 4 Tawa Intermediate are having Cross Country. For Cross Country we have to run a course around Linden. The course is 2.2km which is very long. As I run I can feel my muscles and body in pain. I get really exhausted and tired but I always try my best to finish the course. As I get tired I always stop but I always feel lucky to have my friends right beside me to support me the whole way through:). Cross Country is really good because it keeps you fit and healthy and its also is a good exercise for you. I hope I do well in Cross Country because if i dont i know that I am not fit. So im going to try my best and just finish the course. Even if I come last as long as I finish the course.....So wish me luck:)

Lucy:
For the last week Piwakawaka syndicate have been training for the Cross Country in week 4.The course its self is 2.2 km around Linden.

"Okay, year 7's now" said Miss King.I lined up on the end of the courts ready to run the Cross Country.GO!! SHOUTS Miss King I start of with a jog and pick up my pace running down hill past Miss Marlow. As I run up an enormous hill I see far ahaed of me all the year 8 super fast runners spriting ahead.Down hill "Yes" I say to myself.I sprit as fast as I can down the hill and catch up to my friends.I was so exhausted by the time I reach Mr Westphall my muscles were all sore my mouth was dry and I was starting to get the stich.I was so tired when we were getting close to the end and when I finished at 16 minutes I was breathless for a few minutes.

Zach:
In week 4 of term 2, Tawa intermediate run a 2.2 kilometre cross country run.

As I line up, my legs are ready to drill it's way through this body killer . We are ready for this race. As the whistle blows, my body jolts into complete action. I blast my way through the first few metres of this beastly track. When I jog up the first hill, my heart is pounding as fast as a Cheetah in a sports car. I have to stop, but no, I don't stop. The pride, joy and strength of my body, keeps me going. I keep driving myself, passing all the people in front of me and I drag myself up the treacherous hills.
