The day we came back from our holidays we heard about the shocking news. That the iPod have been stolen and we couldn't recover them so yesterday Mr Rickard came in and had a talk to us and we drawed a time line with what happened.
Then later on that Monday every one was happy and having fun at day one back at Tawa Intermediate we heard about the iPod's sad story then we played some games and had a another. It was that Miss King was leaving Tawa Intermediate and going to visit another county and then staying in another county with Miss Kings partner. That's the sadest news of all :(
Welcome to Room 2's blog. We are a class of 30 awesome year 7 and 8 students at Tawa Intermediate, in Wellington, New Zealand. This blog is a way for us to record our learning and share it with our families/whanau and the community.

Bongaloo Poems!
We have added some verses to the Spike Milligan poem "Bongaloo"
Here's the original...
'What is a Bongaloo, Daddy?'
'A Bongaloo, Son,' said I,
'Is a tall bag of cheese
Plus a Chinaman's knees
And the leg of a nanny goat's eye.'
'How strange is a Bongaloo, Daddy?'
'As strange as strange,' I replied.
'When the sun's in the West
It appears in a vest
Sailing out with the noonday tide.'
'What shape is a Bongaloo, Daddy?'
'The shape, my Son, I'll explain:
It's tall round the nose
Which continually grows
In the general direction of Spain.'
'Are you sure there's a Bongaloo, Daddy?'
'Am I sure, my Son?' said I.
'Why, I've seen it, not quite
On a dark sunny night
Do you think that I'd tell you a lie?
Here are some verses Room 2 students have added:

"Where is the bongaloo, Daddy?"
"Ow,Where is he" I cried
He in a dark cave
Having a shave
He thought he would give it a try

" How does it sound I cry"
it has a screech
that can reach
a bird that has recently died

He hasn't payed his fees
He's got a disease
and he lives near a pile of hay

The classroom move (and some bad news about the ipods...)
Moving Day, by Michaela
On the last day of term 3 we moved up to room 8. We had to move because construction will be happening on our old classroom ..... room 2.
In the morning before the move ,we had a auction with our class economy money. There were lots of items avalible for auction like chocolate , waterguns , whoopee cushions , and mystery prizes. In the mystery prizes there were , a potato , glowsticks , chocolate and an eraser.
After interval we started our move upstairs to room 8.
To make the move easier the last class that was up in room 8 left their desks there so that we didnt have to move our tables up to room 8. The day consisted of moving tables , chairs and totetrays into the hall and onto the stage ,they were very heavy to get onto the stage but we managed to get everything up there. Once everything was in the hall we beagn to move all our other classroom items upstairs into room 8. It was a tiring move because the new classroom soon became a mess from all the learning equipnment out everywhere and trying to clean it up before lunchtime was a hard task, but we managed to do it in the end and our classroom ended up looking great.
Once the classroom was done, we had our shared lunch , there was lots of yummy food brought in by our classmates and Miss King made us some spiders.
After the shared lunch we went outside for lunch break for a while , and when that was over we came back to class to play some games. First we played wink murderer , then we decided to go play some k.o. and basketball outside on the courts , we had to use the small court because room 3 was using the big one.
Once the games were over it was time to go inside and pack up for the end of the day
Our new classsroom looks nice and tidy and we have a good view of all the construction being done by the hall and out by the spec areas. We get alot of sun up here so it is very bright , but its nice and warm.
The view from our new classroom!
MOVING CLASSROOMS AND STOLEN IPODS
At the end of last term we were packing up our classroom. We were moving up to room eight because our classroom was being built. It didn't take too long for us to all take all of our stuff in the classroom upstairs to room eight because there was quite a lot of us. Since room eight was one of the classrooms upstairs that meant we had to walk up the stairs with a few things and then walk down the stairs to get more things and walk back up.
On the first day of Term four Miss King said that our iPods were gone. We were hoping that someone had put them away somewhere and they just weren't found. The next day Brydon in our class found one of the cases on a hill near Kowhai street and then we realized that our iPods could have been stolen. We aren't sure at all who did this but we are hoping that the security camera caught who ever had stolen the iPods.
We have now moved to room eight and liking it so far we are hoping to get our iPods back and we really have enjoyed our stay in room eight so far.

Googlesite to keep track of Room 2's resources
We now have a googlesite to keep all of our resources together (permission slips, maths games, homework asssignments etc.)
This will make it easier to find things from home, and should mean that we can keep our blog just as a record of the exciting learning we are doing at school, rather than admin-type stuff.
You can access the site here or via the link on the right side-bar.
Please give feedback about any changes that would improve this! That's for parents as well as students. :)

Sustainability Project
As a fun project to go along with our sustainability project, room 2 students have been creating planets that could sustain life in the event of a disaster sometime in the future that could make Earth uninhabitable.
This morning we presented our projects to the class and to Mr Rickard, who came along as our judge. You can check out some of our projects here! Most projects also had a significant amount of accompanying pictures and written material.
Pacey's group began to make a google site. They also had some hand-drawn pictures and other information to share.
Shiv's group presented a google presentation which covered a huge range of the aspects of their planet.
Here are some of the prezis and powerpoints students created:

Changing Class Rooms
Recently classes have moved classrooms because the TIS teachers want to make our walls Earthquake proof so that if a earthquake happens our walls will be more stronger so that it won't break. This is were some of the classrooms are going to Room 7, 8 are in the studio room 5 moved into room 7, room 6 moved to room 8 and now on Friday the 28th of September room 2 are moving to room 8 and room 7, 8 are going back to their classroom. We will have to take everything of our wall like Homework, Projects e.t.c. It would probably take 1 block to take everything of our wall and 1 block to put everything in room 8. We will be probably be in room 8 for 1 month because all of the construction in room 2. It's going to be pretty cool moving in room 8 because we have a really good view outside.

ESSAY IDEAS FOR WEEK 11!
Here are some ideas to get you started:
Chores (Persuasive)
Many parents give their children certain chores or tasks to do at home. Should children have to do chores or tasks at home? Be sure to explain why you think it is a good idea or a bad idea. Include examples to support your reasons.
Cousin (Descriptive)
Pretend that you have a cousin you've never met. Your cousin lives in another state, but you want him or her to get to know you. Write a letter to your cousin describing yourself. Include what you look like, your personality, and your interests.
Feeling Happy (Descriptive)
Think about something that made you happy recently. Describe fully what happened and how you felt. Also explain why it made you feel that way.
Make a Change (Cause-Effect)
Think of something in your school which needs to be changed. Describe why it has to be changed. Explain how this change will affect students.
Earn Money (Process)
Pretend that your class publishes a newspaper. Your classmates write to you and ask for help. You then tell them what they should do. You just got this letter:
Dear Secret Helper,
I am in year 8. I really want a bike! All my friends have bikes. But I only have $5. How can I make money for a bike? Help!
Your friend,
Sammie
Can you help Jimmy? Answer his letter. Describe one way he can make money for his bike and write in detail everything Jimmy needs to do to earn enough money for the bike.
Monday and Friday (Compare and Contrast)
Mondays and Fridays are both school days; however, they are different in some ways. Write an essay describing what Mondays are like, including how you feel and what you do on Mondays. Then, describe what Fridays are like. Explain two ways that Mondays and Fridays are similar, and explain two ways that they are different. Include examples to support your points.
Foods for Health (Cause and Effect)
We need to eat many different kinds of foods to grow strong and healthy. Write a description of at least three foods you think are needed for a healthful diet. Explain the benefit each food brings to you. Also describe what you think would happen to your body if you did not eat these healthy foods.
New Subject to Study (Persuasive)
Imagine that your teacher wants to teach a new subject for the next few weeks. Your teacher will take suggestions, and then let the students vote on the new subject. What subject should your class choose? Write an essay to support your choice and to persuade the other students to vote for your choice.
Have a look at this website for some more ideas of what to write about.

Piwakawaka School Trip
It's a cold morning and we're all ready to go. At 09:05am we sat outside getting ready to walk to the train station. We were going to Porirua Pools and Sports center.
When we arrived it was getting warmer. People were getting excited just walking inside the center. We all decided to go for a swim first. But we had a race see which class is the best at swimming and.........ROOM 2 WON!. We all still had fun but the hydroslide was CLOSED after awhile. Then after 2 hours of swimming past and we got ready to do some sport. The sports center was very big.We had a basketball court, a Netball court, and a Hockey and soccer court.
AFTER doing lots of sport we all were soooooo tierd and was ready to g home.
